MENDHAM, NJ — A Mendham police officer sprang into action this week in extinguishing a house fire.
On Tuesday, around 11:30 p.m., authorities were called to a residence in the Oak Knoll section of town on reports of a fire.
Among the first to arrive was Sergeant Robert Kalweit, who first confirmed with the homeowner that all the occupants were safely out of the building.
After learning exactly where the blaze was, in the basement, Kalweit ran into the home with a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
See the harrowing body camera footage below:
Kalweit was able to successfully extinguish the fire before it spread to the rest of the house, police said.
