MENDHAM, NJ — A Mendham man was arrested in a New York child sex sting last month, according to police.
Stephane Pontoizeau, 39, faces several charges after a multi-faceted undercover investigation ended with three individuals being arrested.
According to officials, Pontoizeau was one of three men trying to pursue "illegal sexual activity involving children."
Over the course of several days last month, New York authorities deployed trained undercover investigators who engaged with people, including Pontoizeau, who believed they were communicating with minors online.
Officials added that these people took steps to "arrange in-person encounters for illegal sexual activity."
Pontoizeau is charged with attempted rape and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned on Aug. 14 in New York and released on his own recognizance.
Also arrested in the sting were Leroy Bruyn and Ramon Josue Lopez-Moreno, both of New York, who face similar charges.
