Decide What Mendham Residents In 2051 Will See In Time Capsule

MENDHAM, NJ — What should Mendham residents in 2051 know about life in their community 25 years earlier?

The Rotary Club of the Mendhams is asking locals to help answer that question as it prepares a community time capsule that will be sealed during Mendham Fest on Saturday and remain closed for the next quarter-century.

Residents, families, local businesses, and community organizations are being invited to suggest items that capture Mendham in 2026 and could give future residents a glimpse into the community when the capsule is reopened in 2051.

Ideas can be submitted through the Mendham Community Time Capsule Form, where participants can explain what they would like to contribute and why the item is significant.

There are a few restrictions. Items should be small, durable, and able to withstand long-term storage. Food, liquids, and batteries will not be accepted.

Organizers are also warning residents not to contribute anything valuable, sentimental, or irreplaceable. Items selected for the capsule will remain sealed for 25 years and will not be returned to their original owners.

Because space is limited, the Rotary committee will make the final selections based on available room and how well items are expected to hold up over time.

The capsule is scheduled to be sealed Saturday at Mendham Fest before beginning its long wait for 2051.
