Annual Memorial Day Commemoration Planned For Chester Borough

Residents can gather on Chester Borough's Main Street to watch the procession and listen to inspiring stories and patriotic music.

CHESTER BOROUGH, NJ — Chester will remember those in the Armed Forces who died while serving their country on "Decoration Day," also known as Memorial Day.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 30th at 11 a.m. at Maysey Memorial/Memorial Park, with Mayor Janet Hoven serving as Master of Ceremonies. Chester Volunteer Fire Company #1, Chester Police and Chester Volunteer First Aid Squad will all be present to honor Chester's veterans.

Residents can gather on Main Street in Chester Borough to watch the procession and hear inspiring stories, moving speeches, and patriotic musical performances. The rattling rifle salute and the moving "Taps" will also be heard as officials honor those who have given their all for our country.

The West Morris Community Band, led by Gary Quam, will provide music for the event, as will vocal soloist and Chester resident Mary Bolio. The ceremonial Laying of the Wreaths and Roll Call of Chester Fallen Soldiers will be performed by members of the American Legion and Pastor Layne Mershimer of the First Congregational Church of Chester.

The event is co-sponsored by the Borough of Chester and American Legion Post 342, Chester. Anyone who has served or is currently serving in the Armed Forces is invited to join the procession and should meet at the Gazebo on Main Street at 10:45 a.m.
