Attempted Vehicle Thefts Reported In Mendham Township: Police

According to police, no suspect was located and it is believed they fled the area shortly after.

MENDHAM, NJ — Members of the Mendham Township Police Department issued a public safety alert following suspected vehicle theft attempts on early Friday morning.

According to police, a number of vehicles were found with open doors or signs that someone had to attempted to get into them.

The vehicles were found in the "Brockden/Knollwood/Governors/Drakewick area," police said.

Earlier in the morning, at around 2 a.m., patrolman Kalweit discovered a Burgundy Chrysler 300 parked on Route 24 in the Hope Farm area, occupied by a single driver

The vehicle immediately took off at high speed down Rt. 24, Cold Hill, and out Tempe Wicke, where officers stopped following it

Patrols launched an immediate search due to indications that subjects were on foot in the surrounding area

No one was located and it is believed the suspects left the area shortly after, police said

Police are urging residents to remain vigilant in the fight against motor vehicle theft by locking their car doors, removing key fobs and garage door openers from their vehicles and reporting any suspicious activity to police.
