CCM Student Newspaper Earns 10 Awards

Paper Receives Awards for General Excellence, Layout, Design and Editorial Writing.

The New Jersey Press Association (NJPA) recently announced that the County College of Morris (CCM) school newspaper, Youngtown Edition, has received 10 awards including second place for general excellence, second place for layout and design, and second place for editorial writing in its 2011/2012 College Newspaper Contest. 

In addition, five staff writers for the Youngtown were presented with awards. Joseph Pohl of Hillsborough won first place for editorial writing and third place for arts and entertainment writing; Chelsea Ryan of Pequannock won first place for arts and entertainment writing; Lauren Bozzi of Succasunna won second place in arts and entertainment writing; Lauren Nelson of Hackettstown won second place for biography and personality profile writing; Sandra Pledger of Randolph won third place for biography and personality writing; and Eduardo Villabon of Mine Hill won third place for feature writing.

The NJPA’s College Newspaper Contest, which is open both to two-year and four-year schools, is judged by professional journalists in the state.

A consistent award-winner, Youngtown last year also had several first-place award-winning writers. The Youngtown has been published consistently at CCM every semester since 1968.
