Chester and Surrounding Community help 73 families in Oklahoma through Stuff-a-Truck
When the Chester Lions Club help the Stuff-a-Truck for Oklahoma tornado victims, the community pulled together to stuff a truck with 13 pallets of boxes. The boxes, which were filled with non-perishable foods, personal hygiene products, over-the-counter medical supplies, books, tools, baby toys and gear, and cleaning supplies, were sent to Oklahoma City where Lions Clubs of Oklahoma worked together to set up a “store” where those affected by the tornadoes could shop, free of charge, for needed supplies, food, and clothing. In addition to the 13 pallets the Chester Lions Club shipped to Oklahoma were 7 pallets from the Metairie Delta Lions Club in Louisiana, and 2 pallets direct from the Lysol Company full of D-Con Pest control products, Lysol wipes, and Lysol cleaning products.
During the free shopping day, 73 families went through approximately 14 of the 22 total pallets of donated goods. The non-perishable food that remained was donated to the local food bank, and the remaining clothes were picked up by one of the larger homeless shelters in the area.
“We are going to sort through the books and get them in the hands of the schools, along with some of the teacher supplies we found. The school libraries will also be the focus of our rebuilding plans” said Troy Jenkins, chair-person of the Oklahoma Lions District 3H Disaster Relief committee. “Thank you to everyone in New Jersey who helped to make this possible.”
