Chester Basketball Bids Farewell to Laurie LaSorsa

A story about a local Chester resident who made huge contributions to the local basketball program and to hundreds of local youth.

Laurie LaSorsa knows and loves basketball, and has worn many hats when it comes to the sport, including avid fan, player, coordinator, president and even reffing official. But the role that she may be most proud of is coach to all four of her children and many Chester youth who have benefitted from her expertise and enthusiasm for the sport over 12 years and 16 seasons!

Laurie began coaching in 2005 and became President of Chester Basketball in 2006, where she has served until this day. She lead the transformation of Chester Basketball from a small, four-grade program to a comprehensive K-8 program comprised of clinics, rec teams and travel teams. She also significantly increased fundraising efforts to acquire score boards in all three Chester schools and contribute towards the purchase of a sound system for the Mendham High School gym.

Throughout her time as a coach, three of her travel teams and one of her rec teams have won championships! When she is not coaching, she is playing basketball on a Long Valley women’s league or reffing high school and college games as an IAABO certified official.

As her youngest child finishes middle school and she steps down from her reign as the President of Chester Basketball, all of us in the Chester basketball community would like to thank her from the bottom of our hearts for what she has done for the sport of basketball in Chester. Hundreds of Chester children have benefitted from Laurie’s passion for the sport over the last 12 years, and her involvement at this level will be sorely missed.
