Presentation held at 10 a.m. to benefit those with free hours during the day.

The Chester Board of Education is inviting Chester parents and residents to a meeting on the 2012-2013 school budget on Tuesday, May 1 at 10 a.m. at the Board of Education Office at 50 North Road.

Hosted by Superintendent Christina VanWoert and Business Administrator Mary Jane Canose, the informal meeting will review the revenues, expenses, program initiatives and facility projects scheduled for next year.

Chester Board of Education President Raymond Trevisan commented, “Because there is no vote on the school budget this year, the members of the Board felt it was important for the community to have an opportunity to learn about and comment on the budget.”

On January 17, P.L. 2011, c.202 was signed into law, allowing boards of education to move the April annual school board election to the November general election and forgo a vote on the school budget if the tax levy increase is below the 2% cap. Because the district’s tax levy increase for the 2012-2013 school year is at 0%, the Chester Board of Education, along with 468 other New Jersey school districts, voted to move the election to November.
