Chester Borough Rejects Police Contract
Mayor says pact did not meet the needs of the borough.

The final disposition of the police department in Chester Borough remains up in the air as the Mayor and Council rejected the latest interlocal service agreement proposal for the contracting of police services from Chester Township.
The exploration of options regarding the police has been an ongoing topic for the past year in Chester Borough. Many residents expressed concerns about the disbanding and dissolution of the current department and residents who participated in a poll on Patch were not interested in a change for the police department.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Bob Davis made public the council’s decision and the letter he had written to Chester Township Mayor Bill Cogger where he outlined the five issues where the proposal did not meet the needs of the borough.

- The Borough to be a separate and independent patrol district.
- Adequate minimum Township Police Department staffing is not addressed.
- Other terms are too vague as to be without specific cost controls for the Borough.
- The police dispatch issue.
- The storage of pending files.
In the letter, Davis thanked the township for their hard work, but concluded that the borough did not wish to move forward with the contracting of police services.
