Chester, Mendham Delay School Start For Coronavirus Prep

The Chester School District and the Mendham Township School District will open late Wednesday as they prepare for a possible closure.

CHESTER, NJ - The Chester School District and the Mendham Township School District will open late Wednesday as they prepare for a possible closure due to the encroachment of the novel coronavirus or COVID19.

Superintendent of the Chester School District Christina Van Woert said the district has directed by the State Department of Education to prepare a Distance Learning Plan for up to two weeks in the event that our schools are ordered to close due to a health related issue - the coronavirus.

"In order to prepare a comprehensive educational plan that maintains educational continuity and excellence, the Chester School District will have a two hour delayed opening for students this Wednesday, March 11 allowing our faculty time to plan accordingly," she said.

Mendham Township Schools will also have a delayed opening on Wednesday, March 11 so that officials can finalize plans for the students in the event of school closures due to the coronavirus. School officials also noted they are also planning to use this time for additional disinfecting of all our buildings.

Mendham Township residents are also being asked to respond to a survey that will allow the district to assess students’ access to the internet and devices at home.
