Brian Dowe of Chester Earns Honors at Skidmore College

Brian Dowe, Class of 2013 at Skidmore College, has received honors at the college this spring. He is the son of Richard and Maia Dowe of Chester.

Dowe was selected to the Skidmore chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society. Sigma Pi Sigma exists to honor outstanding scholarship in physics; to encourage interest in physics among students at all levels; to promote service by its members toward their fellow students, colleagues, and the public; and to provide a fellowship of persons who have excelled in physics. Founded in 1921, Sigma Pi Sigma is a member honor society of the Association of College Honor Societies and is housed within the national Society of Physics Students. It has over 75,000 historical members.

Academic prizes were awarded during Honors Convocation, Skidmore's annual celebration of academic achievement. College President Philip A. Glotzbach, Director of Periclean Honors Forum and Professor of English Catherine Golden, Associate Professor of Classics Michael Arnush, Associate Professor of Spanish Grace Burton, and Vice President for Academic Affairs Susan A. Kress were among those awarding prizes to students at the event, which took place in early May on campus.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and pre-professional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
