Chester Police Handle More Than 2,600 Calls In June

The Chester Police reported that they responded to over 2,600 calls, including 72 with the first aid squad. Here are details about a few.

CHESTER, NJ — A woman “nodding off” as she was driving on Route 206 and an incident that led to a police chase after a man left the scene of a reported domestic violence incident, were among the notable calls the Chester Police Department responded to in June.

The department reported that with the more than 2,600 calls officers responded to in June, there were 52 car crashes that they investigated. They had 72 calls with the first aid squad and 19 with the fire department.

  • The call on June 4 with a Succasunna woman who looked to be falling asleep behind the wheel as she drove on Route 206. The department reported as officers reached her, she was slouching over her steering wheel. Police say they found drug paraphernalia after they stopped her, including syringes and wax folds. The department charged her with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) without a prescription, DWI and possession of suspected heroin and paraphernalia, as well as some other undisclosed charges.
  • The next day on June 5, officers received a call about the possibility of a man using drugs in a home. The man, who lived in Chester, was charged with possession of suspected heroin and being under the influence of CDS without a prescription.
  • A Lake Hiawatha man was charged on June 19 with DWI, as Chester Police received a call that he was attempting to drive haphazardly around cars on Route 510. Mendham Borough Police helped with the call and the man was also charged with reckless driving and other undisclosed charges.
  • Mendham Borough Police helped the department out with a call on June 23 when police were asked to do a welfare check on a Chester man sitting in his car near Jersey Mike’s Subs. Police charged him with DWI and for having an open container of alcohol in his car.
  • Police learned of an assault on June 26 after responding to a domestic violence call, which resulted in a vehicle chase with the unidentified man. He was charged, after they found him on a dead end street, with simple assault and was placed in the Morris County Correctional Facility, police said, awaiting a court appearance.
  • A Philadelphia woman now faces several charges, after Chester Police stopped her car on June 27, discovering Ewing Township Police in New Jersey were looking for her already, for a traffic warrant.

Community assignments, traffic stops, checks on residences and businesses and other types of cases, were among the approximately 2,600 calls.
