Chester Schools Awarded Safety Honor for 2013

Two-step process results in honor only given to small percentage of state's school districts.

The Chester School District is a safe place to be.

So much so that the district was recently awarded by the New Jersey School Boards Association Insurance Group a 2013 Safety Award for its efforts.

The distinction is given to a select group of school districts, with just 43 garnering the recognition out of more than 400 in the NJSBAIG’s workers’ compensation pool, according to district Business Administrator Mary Jane Canose.

Districts are selected based on two factors, including:

  • Effort put forth as measured by the NJSBAIG’s Safety Assessment
  • Result achieved as measured by the workers’ compensation loss ratio, which is loss dollars divided by premium dollars.

The recipients were recognized for implementing an effective safety program in their districts, minimizing workers’ compensation costs.

By achieving this effort, NJSBAIG said, it keeps students education continuity moving forward without the need for substitute teachers and keeps costs down for taxpayers as the district pays lower insurance premiums.
