Chester Township Man Dies at Home After Illness

Berthold Erich Herd died on Saturday Sept. 22 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was 87 years old.

Born in Germany on January 24, 1925, he was a resident of Chester Township for many years and was employed by Komline Sanderson Corporation in Peapack NJ as a career welder with his good friend Sal Grievo.

Herd was predeceased by his wife, Elfriede I. (Rudt) Herd in 2002, as well as three siblings. He is survived by by his sister Anneliese Just of Germany, as well as many nieces and nephews in Germany. He is also survived by his companion Anita Albers, Director of the Albrook School in Basking Ridge.

Herd was interred at Hilltop Cemetery in Mendham.
