Chester Woman, Great-Grandmother Dies at 84

Beryl Apgar lived locally for 21 years.

While Beryl Apgar was born across the Atlantic Ocean, she spent her last 21 years in Chester.

The great-grandmother died Saturday at the Holly Manor Nursing Home in Mendham on Saturday, Aug. 16, according to her obituary.

Apgar was from East Dereham, Norfolk, United Kingdom where she owned a general store with her first husband. More than anything, though, Apgar loved spending time with her family.

She is predeceased by her first husband, William Boyd, who died in 1991, as well as he second husband, George Apgar, who died in 2004. She is survived by her five children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Apgar’s life will be held Thursday, Aug. 21 from 11 a.m. to noon at the William J. Leber Funeral Home at the corner of Furnace Road and Rt. 206 in Chester.
