Chris Christie To Campaign With Donald Trump Monday in Virginia

The governor will appear alongside Trump on Monday as speculation looms over vice presidential picks.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will campaign with presumptive Republican nominee for president Donald Trump in Virginia Beach on Monday as speculation looms over whom the celebrity businessman-turned- politician will pick as his running mate.

NBC News was first to report the event, citing campaign sources, and Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks later confirmed the news to NJ.com. Christie was earlier set to appear alongside Trump in Miami on Friday, but the event was cancelled in the wake of the sniper attack in Dallas that left five law enforcement officers dead.

Trump is expected to announce his VP pick this week, CNN reports.

Rumors that Trump will pick Christie as his running mate are not new, but there are others being vetted by the presumptive nominee. On Tuesday, Trump will appear with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence at a rally and private fundraiser in Central Indiana.

Pence, who is up for reelection in November, would have to withdraw from the gubernatorial race by July 15 if he were to be Trump's running mate, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Last week, Newt Gingrich joined Trump at a rally in Ohio, as did U.S. Sen. Bob Corker in North Carolina before he withdrew his name from vice president considerations. The Washington Post reported Saturday that retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn is also on Trump's list of potential running mates.

Christie cancelled a community forum set to take place in Bergen County on Monday. The event will be rescheduled for a later date.

Anti-Trump delegates are reportedly preparing a rules change proposal that would let delegates pick their own vice presidential nominee, BuzzFeed News reported Saturday. The proposal obtained by BuzzFeed would make it easier for delegates to reject whomever Trump picks as his running mate.
