Collins Honored At Eagle Scout Ceremony

DATELINE – December 11, 2017 – Quinn Collins, son of Steve and Carolyn Collins of Chester, NJ, has achieved Boy Scouting's highest rank, that of Eagle Scout. He reached his goal of Eagle on September 6th and received his Eagle badge during a court of honor ceremony on December 2nd at Black River Middle School in Chester. To earn the award, a Scout must be active with a troop, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, assume a position of leadership in a troop and complete a service project that benefits the community. The ceremony was attended by Chester Borough Mayor Janet Hoven, NJ Assemblyman Anthony Bucco and US Congressman Leonard Lance.

Quinn began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub with Pack 139 and continued through Cub Scouting in Chester to achieve its highest award, the Arrow of Light.

As a member of Troop 139 in Chester, Quinn has held numerous leadership positions including Troop Guide and Senior Patrol Leader. He has earned 27 merit badges and has attended National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Quinn participated in many High Adventure trips, which included backpacking over 90 miles at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico, canoeing over 50 miles in Maine and attending the Boy Scout National Jamboree in West Virginia. Other leadership activities include his involvement in Outward Bound School and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).

For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Quinn rebuilt an outdoor amphitheater at Schiff Nature Preserve in Mendham, NJ. The amphitheater will be home to a yearly film festival, an educational summer camp program and respite for passing hikers. Under his direction, both scouts and adult volunteers helped complete the project that took more than 168 man-hours.

Quinn is a Senior at West Morris Mendham High School where he is the Baritone Section Leader in the marching band and Captain of the Ultimate Frisbee Team. He plays trombone in the Jazz Band and is a member of the school’s History Club and Student Council. Quinn is currently planning to attend a university in the Northeast to pursue study in an environmental field in the fall of 2018.

About Boy Scouts, Troop 139

Troop 139 has been active in the Chester community for over 50 years and meets every Monday at 7:30 pm at the Community Presbyterian Church in Chester, New Jersey. The goal of Troop 139 is to provide the tools and opportunities for the boys in our community to learn how to become the leaders of tomorrow, all while having fun today. New members are welcome.
