Crash Involving Mendham High School Bus Injures 1, Cops Say

Rt. 206 in Chester Township was down to one lane for an hour Friday morning, police report.

A motorist from Piscataway was injured and taken to the hospital after colliding with a school bus taking students to Mendham High School Friday morning, Chester Township Police said.

Police responded to the intersection of Rt. 206 and Foxchase Road for a motor vehicle crash at 6:49 a.m., Lt. Tom Williver said.

Upon arrival, police found the driver and seven students aboard the school bus who were uninjured, Williver said.

An investigation revealed Gregg Matechak, 56, of Hackettstown, was driving the bus across Route 206 from Lamerson Road to Foxchase Road when he was hit by a 2011 Nissan Murano, driven by Miguel Velasquez, 23, of Piscataway, Williver said.

Velasquez was injured as a result of the collision and transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the roadway was down to one lane of travel for approximately one hour.
