Sure, there are no local professional baseball teams in the playoffs this year, making for a pretty quiet October.
But who needs the pros when you’ve got the West Morris Baseball Academy 16U Minutemen?
The squad of local teens put on a show last weekend at the 16U South Wall Line Drive Classic Wood Bat Baseball Tournament in Toms River, skunking their opponent in the title game.

After pool play in the tournament, the Minutemen came out as the top seed, and coasted to the championship game after two wins. They faced off against the 9ers Baseball Club in the finale, and proved why they earned the number one seed.
West Morris won 10-0 to capture the championship trophy and only gave up seven runs in five games, thanks to phenomenal defense and top-flight pitching. Of the five games, Minutemen hurlers went the distance in four of them.
