Former Chester Fire Chief Passes Away

George A. Somody, 62, was a lifelong and involved Chester resident.

George A. Somody, 62, of Chester, NJ passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018. George was born on August 26, 1955 in Flemington, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Chester, NJ. He was an owner of Chester Collision and G. A. Somody Excavating in Chester, NJ.

George loved motorcycles, especially his Harley Davidsons. He enjoyed camping and taking trips down to Ocean City, Maryland with his family and best friends, Frankie and Cheryl Koval. George was an extremely hard worker and had an amazing work ethic, working six days a week. George was a member and ex-chief of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department. Most of all, George loved the time with his family, particularly his daughters and grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sue Somody (nee Parks), his children, Samantha Koval and her husband Michael, Brooke Somody and her fiancé Alex Kenny, and Casey Zipko and her husband Eric, his grandchildren, Emersyn Zipko and Luca Koval, his sister, Cynthia Crider, his sister-in-law Mary Somody, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Verna Somody, and brother, Walter Somody.

A Celebration of George’s Life will include a memorial gathering on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 4pm to 7pm followed by a 7pm funeral service at William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (Corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090. Interment will be held privately by his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the Chester Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 506, Chester, NJ 07930, the Chester First Aid Squad, P.O.
