Former Hilltop, St. Joseph's School Teacher Dies at 70

'Betty' Haarsgaard spent 31 years living in Mendham.

Elizabeth “Betty” Haarsgaard not only lived in Mendham, but she gave back to it generously.

The longtime resident died recently at the age of 70, according to her obituary.

Haarsgaard was born in Rockeville Center, New York, before living in Springfield, New Jersey. She then moved to Mendham 31 years ago.

Haarsgaard graduated Cabrinnii College in Radnor, Pennsylvania in 1966. She went on to become an elementary teacher, spending 10 years at Hilltop School in Mendham before retiring in 2007. She also taught at St. Joseph’s School in Mendham for five years.

Haarsgaard is survived by her husband, Robert, of 45 years, two sons, and three grandchildren.
