Grace Bible Chapel celebrates 40th annual VBS day camp and gives back to charity

Grace Bible Chapel's VBS Camp

Grace Bible Chapel (“GBC”) recently held its Vacation Bible School (“VBS”) from July 17 through July 21. In all, there were 90 kids ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school seniors. Every kid participated in this year’s theme: Maker Fun Factory (created by God, built for a Purpose). Led by director Renee Lawrence, participants learned Bible verses, played games, and enjoyed tons of crafts.

Grace Bible Chapel’s members have numerous outreach ministries, both locally and internationally. One such outreach is the Dayspring Ministries located in Haiti. GBC’s service to the people of Haiti began in the months following the devastating earthquake that hit Port au Prince and the surrounding area in January 2010. Since that time, they have sent teams to My Father’s House Orphanage, the Light and Peace Church and school in Bon Repos and to churches in many other towns both near and far at least twice a year. Their next trip with Dayspring Ministries is scheduled mid- November 2017. They will be distributing Sawyer water filters in several locations. These life-saving devices can turn up to a million gallons of foul, disease-ridden water into water that is completely suitable for drinking. Children at the VBS day camp raised $7,331 to help with these water filters.

Another outreach opportunity the children were able to contribute to was Samaritan’s Purse- Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. A doll, dental floss, toothbrush, toy car, or any other item is lovingly added to an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift, which has the potential to influence a child. These #shoeboxstories are a series of articles in which recipients give a first-hand account of the eternal impact of a gift delivered in charity. Camp participants worked generously to fill over 625 boxes with pride. These boxes will be delivered during Operation Christmas Child national collection week in November.
