High Driver Led Cops On Chase Through Mendham School Zone, Police Say
Police found cocaine and other drugs in the driver's car once the chase ended, authorities said.
MENDHAM, NJ — A man has been arrested after taking police on a chase through Mendham while high on drugs, officials said.
Brian Costello, 65, of Randolph, faces several motor vehicle and drug-related charges after the mid-day chase, police said.
On Wednesday, around 3 p.m., Mendham Township police spotted an “erratic driver” headed south on Cold Hill Road, authorities said.

When police attempted to pull Costello over, he kept driving, nearly causing several crashes as he led authorities on a chase, part of which took place in a school zone, according to officials.
The chase eventually stopped after Costello collided with a vehicle on Tempe Wick Road, police said.

Police determined that Costello was high on drugs while driving, and found liquid methadone, 50 illicit pills, and 1.5 ounces of cocaine in his car, authorities said.
Costello was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, refusal to submit to breath testing, possession of cocaine with Intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within a school zone, and possession of methadone and alprazolam.
Authorities said due to the charges and Costello’s “lengthy criminal history,” he is being held in the Morris County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.
