Hundreds Still Without Power In Mendham, Chester

Roads are steadily reopening as the storm aftermath is cleaned up, but it could still be days before power is restored.

MENDHAM & CHESTER, NJ — Areas in Mendham and Chester are beginning to rebound following the chaotic storm over the holiday weekend, but some homes are still powerless.

While hundreds of customers got their power back over the last day, there are hundreds of customers who are still waiting for the lights to come back on.

According to First Energy Corp., here are the estimated restoration times (as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday):

  • Mendham Township: 301 of 2,302 out (13%), restoration at 11:30 p.m. Thursday
  • Mendham Borough: 191 of 2,113 out (9%), restoration at 11:30 p.m. Thursday
  • Chester Township: 113 of 3,020 out (4%) , restoration at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday
  • Chester Borough: 22 of 1,098 out (2%) , restoration at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday

Roadway Closures/Openings

Mendham (As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday)

  • Corey Lane: "Essentially fully open. Wires remain along the side of the road, so please use caution.
  • Ironia Road: Open.
  • Tempe Wick Road east of Corey Lane: This remains our biggest problem area. A low-hanging tree still needs to be addressed, and power lines remain across the roadway just past Leddell Road.
  • Leddell Road: A utility pole remains across the roadway."

Chester (As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday)

  • North Road: Open
  • Tannersbrook Road, Selma Blvd: Both required forestry work, which was expected to take place Tuesday.
