Jumping to New Heights: Mendham Cheerleaders Soar Past Regional Competition

Varsity squad heads into new season with major victory.

Mendham High School’s Competition Cheerleading squad is heading into the start of classes with their heads held high after winning best in show at a competition in Pennsylvania for the second straight year.

The team joined nearly 400 other cheerleaders from the region in the Poconos to test their mettle and prove last year’s win at the same competition was no fluke.

Mendham won both competitions for overall cheer and extreme routine to cap an amazing week of accolades and individual recognition.

On the first night of camp the team competed in and took second place in the home dance competition, and followed up the performance on night two with a blue superior rating – the highest accolade possible – for its cheer performance.

The team received another blue superior rating for their extreme routine on night three of camp and tried out for Universal Cheerleading Association’s All-America Team. Six team members in all were named UCA All-Americans, including:

Ellie Kervick (sophomore)

Catie Calabrese (junior)

Arianna Hastings (junior)

Kimberlee Gallagher (junior)

Lindsay Berish (senior)

Berish was also asked to try out for the UCA staff at the end of her senior year. Freshmen Emily Winters and Gallagher were also recognized by cheerleaders from other teams by receiving the Pin It Forward award for showing leadership, sportsmanship and good citizenship at the camp.
