Kids Patch: Chester Girls Interview Hollywood Make-Up Artist
Fourth graders conduct Q&A with Mendham make-up artist Carla Fabrizi.
Note: Acting on an interest in both journalism and makeup artist as career options, Chester fourth graders Caroline Hurdman and Nikki Shaffer went and interviewed Carla Fabrizi in her shop in Mendham. What follows is their question and answer session with only a courtesy edit for style.

Q. Who or what inspired you to become a make up artist.

A. My mom. I loved watching her put her make up on before she went out. Also when I was young I use to put make up on mannequins in my garage. I was very good at applying Halloween makeup and making the faces look scary.
Q. Where did you grow up?

A. Erie, Pennsylvania.
Q. What’s your favorite part of your job?
A. Making girls pretty
Q. Who were the first famous persons you worked with?
A. Rocker Alice Cooper and singer Blondie.
Q. If you could choose to give a makeover to any celebrity who would you choose?
A. Good question. Let me think a bit. Donald Trump. He needs a full makeover. Also I would like to work with Martha Stewart. Maybe Kate Middleton, too. But definitely Donald Trump and he can afford it.
Q. What do you think of Lady GaGa’s look?
A. I love Lady Gaga’s whole look and her outfits!
Q. What do your friends think about your career?
A. All my friends are in the same business or actors.
Q. Which are easier to work with women or men?
A. Women. Men are so picky.
Q. What make-up tip do you have for women?
A. Always wear and bring lipstick, powder, blush and mascara in your purse. More importantly, clean your face every night and apply sunscreen in the morning.
Q. Why did you create your own line of makeup?
A. Because I found a way to keep makeup “on” actors under the lights that would last 12-14 hours on set.
Q. What was your favorite movie(s) to work on with and why?
A. Superman – I watched them fly on set. Also, the movie Thriller with Michael Jackson. They were very very strict about not looking at him or speaking to him unless you he spoke to you first. Tough if you are applying make up. But all part of the job!
Q. Any TV series?
A. Dr. Quinn. The Practice. Law & Order.
Q. How often do you travel back and forth to Hollywood, California?
A. About every 4 weeks. I just worked with Tom Cruise for press events. He’s very busy right now with Towers movie and others.
Q. Do you work with any assistants?
A. Yes – I have 2 and they are terrific! Jori & Linda and they are based in California and work with my clients when I can’t be there or my clients here that fly west.
Q. What do you carry your makeup in?
A. A set bag. I have one that I’ve used for 20 years.
Q. What is you busiest time of year?
A. The month of May with proms and weddings.
