Kids to Help Sick Peers With Art Fundraiser Sunday in Chester

Sometimes art imitates life.

And sometimes art helps save a life.

This Sunday at The Hive in Chester, part of the Morris County Arts Workshop (MCAW), some 50 artists between the age of five and 17 will create a piece of artwork in honor of Anya, a Chester first-grader recovering from Leukemia.

The two-hour long activity is the first installment of the Kids Create 4 A Cause art workshop that is the brainchild of MCAW’s Chester director Christine Pennisi and Chester resident Ana Adame Kits.

Participants will create a piece of artwork for an area child battling an illness, which will then be displayed on the MCAW website and sold at a suggested donation price of $25 per piece.

All proceeds will benefit a pre-selected children’s hospital. Sunday’s workshop will support Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund, a privately-funded, non-profit organization providing financial, emotional and educational assistance to children in treatment.

“What better way to help children understand that they can make a difference than through art,” said Pennisi in a statement. “We feel this community-based program will teach children that their time, talents and goodwill can have a positive impact on the lives of children, many of which they know, who are dealing with health issues. Through these workshops, we hope to be able to offer numerous pieces of wonderful art for purchase.”
