Lifelong Chester Resident, Mendham Mechanic Dies at 30
Matthew Barton passed just three days after his birthday.

A car enthusiast and fishing dynamo, Matt Barton loved his friends and family.
The lifelong Chester resident died last week, just three days after his 30th birthday, according to his obituary.
Barton received his bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology Management from Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pa., and became an auto mechanic for Moro Automotive Service in Mendham.

Aside from work, Barton loved fishing, was a V-DUB enthusiast, and a life member of the NRA. He was also a big Yankees and Raiders fan, and loved his “German girls, good beer, and animals,” his obituary said.
Barton is survived by his mother, Rosemary, brothers Bryan and Jason, and sister Tonya. He is predeceased by his father Chester Barton, who died in 2013.

A Celebration of Life will include memorial visitation on Friday, May 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the William J. Leber Funeral Home at 15 Furnace Road in Chester. A 10:30 a.m. memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Chester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rosemary Barton which will go toward setting up a fund in Matthews name in the future.
