Mackenzie Barry Signs on to Run For Providence College
Mendham High School senior makes decision official while continuing to dominate indoor track season.
She's logged more miles than most Greyhound buses in the past four years, and it's paid off big time.
Mendham High School's Mackenzie Barry, coming down the home stretch of her senior season, made her college choice officially recently when signing her National Letter of Intent to run for Providence College.
Barry received a full athletic scholarship to join the school's program, and it didn't come by chance. The Minutemen runner is fresh off a gold medal in the North 2, Group 3 sectional title 3,200 meter race – an event that helped her team take the overall competition Saturday.
At this year's Passarelli Invitational Indoor Track Meet, Barry smashed the longstanding record in that same event, setting a her own mark six seconds better than the track's top finish.
During the cross country season, Barry came in third at the Meet of Champions in Holmdel. The senior season accolades only add to the 3.5 years of previous honors she's amassed while running for Mendham.
Barry will enroll in the Rhode Island college in the fall.
