Masucci and Servais Honored at Joint Eagle Scout Ceremony

DATELINE – June 10, 2017 – Chester Troop 139 hosted an Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony to honor Thomas Masucci, son of Duane and Cynthia Masucci, and Michael Servais, son of Steve and Michelle Servais. Both Scouts were presented with BSA’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award. To earn the award, a Scout must be active with a troop, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, assume a position of leadership in a troop and complete a service project that benefits the community. The ceremony was attended by Chester Township Mayor Marcia Asdal, Chester Borough Mayor Janet Hoven and NJ Assemblyman Bucco.

As a member of Troop 139, Thomas held many leadership positions including Quartermaster, Assistant Patrol Leader and Librarian, as well as earned 26 merit badges. For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Thomas coordinated and designed 10 different trail head signs that are installed to guide and inform local hikers all around Chester. Under his direction, scouts and adult volunteers completed the project that took more than 133 man hours.

Thomas is a senior at Mendham High School where he is a member of the wrestling team and is an active member of St. Lawrence Church. Thomas will be attending Virginia Tech University this fall, where he plans to study Business.

Michael served Troop 139 in various leadership positions as well, including Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Troop Guide, as well as earned a total of 24 merit badges. Additionally, he participated in two Boy Scout high adventure trips in Philmont, New Mexico and Seabase, Bahamas. For his Eagle Scout Service project, Michael built two informational kiosks, one next to the Chester Tennis Club off Route 24 and the second on the Patriot’s Path trail head in Chester.

Michael is also a senior at Mendham High School where he is captain of the wrestling team and spends countless hours on various business oriented ventures. Michael will be attending Suffolk University in Boston this fall.

About Boy Scout Troop 139

Troop 139 has been active in the Chester community for over 50 years and meets every Monday at 7:30 pm at the Community Presbyterian Church in Chester, New Jersey. The goal of Troop 139 is to provide the tools and opportunities for the boys in our community to learn how to become the leaders of tomorrow, all while having fun today. New members are welcome.
