MENDHAM, NJ — Mail carriers across the country, including in Mendham, will do their part to help Stamp Out Hunger in the 25th annual food drive this Saturday.

Participating is easy: leave a bag with non-perishable food out near your mailbox on May 13. Your mail carrier will drop off your mail, pick up the bag, and help get it to the local Interfaith Food Pantry for distribution.

The items most needed by the pantry are canned soup, canned fruit, canned tuna, evaporated, dry or shelf stable milk, pasta sauce in cans or plastic jars, canned beans (such as kidney, pinto, etc.), pasta and cereal.

Sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the drive is America's largest one-day food collection event, and collects millions of pounds of food.

"Most of us think of donating food during holiday seasons. But people who require assistance need food year round, so this is a great opportunity to help our fellow residents and give a boost to the Interfaith Food Pantry,'' said Morris County Freeholder Kathy DeFillippo, the county governing board's liaison on human services issues. "We thank the letter carriers serving Morris County for this program.''
