MENDHAM, NJ — A promotion for a Mendham Township police officer became official at the Monday evening committee meeting, as Mayor Nick Monaghan administered the formal oath of office.

At the start of the committee meeting, Officer Robert Kalweit was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Kalweit was born and raised in Mendham and first joined the local police department in 2013 as a full-time police officer. I'm just really happy and proud for him and his family and for everything that he has accomplished," Monaghan said.

"It's crazy going to school in this room and now getting sworn in here, so I want to thank my parents for the support, my brother and my wonderful girlfriend for helping me study this whole time... I thank the town committee for this opportunity and I am looking forward to this new position," Kalweit said.
