Mendham Runners Take Down Records at Indoor Track Meet

Mackenzie Barry and Christian Kildal-Brandt make their mark at Passarelli Invitational.

Two of Mendham’s best athletes rang in the new year with new records, proving their top-tier talents at the 34th annual Passarelli Invitational Indoor Track Meet. 

Senior Mackenzie Barry, a staple among top finishers in distance running in New Jersey the past four years, broke her own record at the meet, according to nj.com. Barry broke the 3,200 meter record of 10:59.68 easily with a new mark of 10:53.96, the report said. Her nearest opponent was West Morris Central’s Brennan Sharkey, who came in second place some 30 seconds later.

Barry also came in third in the 1,000 meter run.

On the boys side, Mendham’s Christian Kildal-Brandt broke an eight-year-old record by a little more than a second in the 600-meter, nj.com reported. He ran a time of 1:23.11, overcoming the meet record of 1:24.11. His nearest opponent was a full six seconds behind.

Mendham athletes also had strong showings in the high jump and 1,600-meter run.
