Mendham's Maggie Doyne Seeks to Build High School in Nepal

After building an orphanage and elementary school in Surkhet, the Mendham native is now looking to provide more opportunities for her children.

Maggie Doyne has become something of a legend in her hometown of Mendham. The local girl who invested her life savings into building an orphange and school for under privledged children in Nepal. 

She has been the topic of Forbes videos, Huffington Post articles and the inspiration behind the film Opening Our Eyes.

But her story doesn't end there. Doyne is stateside now, in part, to raise funds to build a high school for the children in Surkhet.

"She is looking to raise $20,000," said June Cioppettini, who hosted a meet and greet with Doyne in the home she shares with township committeeman Frank Cioppettini last Friday. "That is all it would cost to build a high school over there."

Doyne's Kopila Valley Children's Home is home to 40 children and in 2010 she opened Kopila Valley Primary School. The school, which serves over 300 children from Surkhet and surrounding regions, provides not only education but health care and a daily meal for the students.

Doyne through her BlinkNow Foundation has established a wish list of items for the school that will become crucial with the planned expansion into Kopila High School.

Those who are interested in hearing more about Kopila Valley and Doyne's work can see her Thursday night at the Mendham Borough Library at 6:30 p.m..
