Mendham Township School District Launches Referendum Website

Website features comprehensive FAQs page plus voter tips and project details.

(Mendham Township School District)

Mendham Township, N.J. -- Mendham Township School District will ask the community to vote on Tuesday, Jan. 25, on funding for building repairs and renovations, tech-centered instructional spaces, safety and security upgrades, and more. The district is sharing information through a referendum website, which can be accessed at www.mendhamtwp.org/vote.

The public is encouraged to explore the site to learn what the bond-funded improvements would mean for the schools and community. The website provides a wide range of information, including details about the $19.9 million project proposal and how the district could access state aid to cover 37% of those costs with voter approval.

The new debt will be a lower amount than the expiring debt, so taxpayers would see a $97 per year school debt tax decrease for a home assessed at Mendham Township’s average of $905,519. The referendum is being planned as debt from 2010 and 2011 is coming off the rolls. This proposal asks voters for a new investment and leverages state aid that is only earmarked for districts with voter-approved bonds.

“The bond referendum website serves as a crucial tool for educating and informing the community prior to the vote date,” said Superintendent Dr. Sal Constantino. “Community collaboration made it clear that Mendham Township residents want to preserve our standard of academic excellence, prioritize the safety of our students and staff, and further integrate technology into our classrooms. Voter approval of this referendum offers us an opportunity to do those things in the most fiscally responsible way possible.”

The website also includes a comprehensive FAQs section that answers many questions about the voting process, proposed projects, financial impact, and more. If a question isn’t answered on the site, residents can email referendum@mendhamtwp.org.
