Mendies Spotlight: Title-Winning Football Squad to be Immortalized
High school has not had championship football team in 40 years.

It’s been 40 years since Mendham High School could say it won a football championship, and because of that historic run in 1975, nearly 50 men will be inducted into the Mendies Hall of Fame.
Named the group honoree for this year’s annual event, set for April 10, the 1975 Mendham Minutemen football team, led by head coach Richard Attonito, will be immortalized in the joint Hall of Fame for those who made contributions to the area.
The team went 8-1-2 on the season, outscoring its opponents 167-50 in 11 games and beating Mountain Lakes in the title game on Dec. 6, 1975. The team’s only loss came in the first week to Randolph by a score of 24-0. The team also included future NFL linebacker Jim Collins, who played for the Los Angeles Rams for seven seasons and the San Diego Chargers for one more season.
