Mendham Mock Trial Team Honored for Championship

The Mendham High School mock trial team received a proclamation celebrating its victory in the state championship.

The Mendham High School mock trial team received a proclamation at last week's township committee meeting recognizing its triumph in the state championship.

"On March 20, 2013, the Mendham High School mock trial team won the New Jersey state championship," said Mayor Richard Merkt. "The team had an undefeated season, winning the Morris County championship by defeating Essex County champion Newark Academy."

The team, consisting of Frank Piacenti, Maddie Burrows, Charlotte Smith, Allie Piacenti, Lee Usiskin, Deanna Lee, Sophie Maki, Will Sager, Stephanie Coelho, attorney/coach William Connelly and teacher/coach Eric Heditsch, prevailed over 221 teams from throughout New Jersey, eventually defeating Atlantic County champion Mainland Regional High School for the state title, Merkt said.

"The members have been described by their coach Eric Heditsch as self-motivated, hard-working and always looking to improve performance," Merkt said. "The township of Mendham is proud to recognize the Mendham High School mock trial team for their outstanding achievements."

Merkt then wished the team luck representing New Jersey at the national mock trial tournament on May 8-12.
