An artist reception is planned for Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
This show is just one of many art shows and musical performances the non-profit organization, which brings after-school art, music, language arts, and cultural programs to youth and seniors in Chester, Mendham, Mt. Olive and surrounding areas, continues to host at its storefront location next to ShopRite at 197 US Highway 206.
“We have been so fortunate to not only offer a wonderful array of art and music classes and soon summer camp for our students, but also amazing art shows,” explains MCAW Director and Founder Jane Shatz. “This one showcases the unique, bold expressions of an amazing international artist. Anjum works in oil with a palette knife and gives us an inspirational look at her inner world, the struggles of her homeland and how to rise above it all. It is truly a beautiful experience we know all who visit The Hive will enjoy.”
Saeed obtained a BFA in Fine Arts from the Central Institute of Arts &Crafts, National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan. She also studied illustration at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design both in NYC. To her credit are courses in printmaking, encaustic and pottery from schools in NJ.
Her work has been published in the New York Times, specialty books and publications as well as displayed in private collections for such celebrities as Quincy Jones and Helena Houdova. One of her murals is in the American Islamic Academy. Moreover, her work has been showcased in exhibits around the world from Pakistan to Luxembourg to New York and now The Hive in Chester, NJ.
In addition to this Art Show, MCAW is currently offering a number of special classes and workshops at The Hive. Some of the monthly activities include Paint and Wine for adults; Open Mic Night; Music Café special performances; and Movie Night with guided discussions. The organization also just installed its newest Art in Public Spaces piece called “Ocean Commotion” by teacher Christy Segale and her MCAW/Hive art students. This work includes selfies in a small boat next to a huge wave. It is located next to Staples in the Chester Springs (ShopRite) Mall.
