Nearly 30 New Homes Being Built In Chester, Mayor Says

CHESTER, NJ — Chester residents will soon see the construction of several homes in a long-time undeveloped part of town.

Mayor Tim Drag says that starting soon, 27 homes will be built on the former Cantor property, which is the large open area at the southern end of town. The site is just south of Desiderio’s horse farm on Hall Road, he adds.

The sizes of the single-family homes will range from 3,500 to 5,500 square feet, according to Drag.

The site was initially approved around 2003, Drag said. It's not clear why it took more than 20 years to begin construction.

"This will be a significant change to a property that has sat largely undeveloped for many years, so I wanted to give residents a heads-up before you start seeing equipment and construction activity," Drag said. "I’ll keep everyone updated as the project moves forward."

Construction is expected to start before the fall, with foundations being built before the ground freezes, Drag says.
