NJ Man Killed In Mississippi College Shooting: Report

The 22-year-old victim was a student at Jackson State University, according to reports.

JACKSON, MS — A 22-year-old New Jersey man was killed Friday morning in a shooting on the Jackson State University campus in Mississippi, according to a report and officials.

JSU student Flynn Brown was found dead inside a vehicle, WLBT reported, citing Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart. The shooting happened around 8 a.m., according to the station.

Randall Smith, 20, of New Orleans, was arrested in connection with the shooting. It's unclear if he's been charged.

JSU President Thomas Hudson released a statement Friday confirming the death of a student.

"The loss of a young person is always a devastating circumstance for our campus community," Hudson wrote. "Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time."

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Jackson State University Police are investigating the shooting, WAPT reported.
