Popular Mendham Twp. Teacher, Coach Dies at 66
Dan Doherty spent 41 years working for the board of education.

Dan Doherty made an impact on anyone he knew in both his personal and professional life.
The longtime Long Valley resident died on Sept. 2 at the age of 66.
Doherty had retired just one year ago from the Mendham Township Board of Education, where he served as the Physical Education, Health, and Athletic Director for many years. His impact in the district was so vast, the school board named and dedicated their sports fields in his honor. They are now known as the Dan Doherty Field.

Doherty was a teacher and coach there for 41 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda, and two daughters, Amy Kathryn and Jennifer Brynn.

Visitation will be held at Cochran Funeral Home on High Street in Hackettstown on Sunday, Sept. 6 from 1 to 5 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke’s Church on West Mill Road on Monday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made in Doherty’s name to a charity of choice.
