Property Tax Bill Deadline Extended In Mendham Borough

Mendham's third-quarter property tax bills were mailed late due to a delay in the information borough officials required.

MENDHAM, NJ — Mendham Borough residents will have an extension to pay their 2022 tax bill for August due to a mailing delay, borough officials announced recently.

Because of the delay, the statutory Aug. 1 due date for third-quarter taxes will be extended until Aug. 15, officials said.

"The grace period for the August 2022 property tax bill is extended to Aug. 15, 2022, after which time said payments will be delinquent and subject to interest penalties calculated from Aug. 1, 2022," officials said in a resolution passed by the council.

Tax delays have also impacted neighboring Morris County towns, and Madison Borough officials say the delay was caused by a wait for Morris County's certified rate.

"Due to the delay in the certification of the Borough’s tax rate by the Morris County Tax Board, the mailing of the third quarter 2022 property tax bills will be delayed and the Tax Collector has recommended that payments for the third quarter property taxes should be extended," said the resolution.

According to officials, the tax bill was mailed to borough homeowners during the week of July 20, a significant delay from the state rule that requires municipal property tax bills to be mailed at least 47 days prior to the first of August each year.
