Road Closures, Service Disruption Possible In Upcoming Mendham Water Project

The project includes replacing service lines and fire hydrants, with work hours scheduled Monday through Friday.

MENDHAM, NJ — Mendham Borough residents on Mountainside Road will soon see a water main replacement project by New Jersey American Water. The company is investing $400,000 to upgrade infrastructure in the area. This project involves installing 720 feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe.

The work will take place on Mountainside Road, specifically between Ironia Road and Mountain Avenue. The project also includes transferring and replacing one fire hydrant and installing five 1-inch services. New Jersey American Water is committed to providing customers with safe and reliable water service.

Montana Construction, the contractor, is expected to begin work on or about Thursday. Weather permitting, the main replacement is scheduled to be completed by the end of March. Final street restoration, however, will be completed in the fall of 2026.

Work hours for the project are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend and evening work is not anticipated unless required to maintain the project schedule. Sections of the street where construction occurs may be closed during work hours, and traffic control will be coordinated with local police. Motorists are advised to use caution and follow detour routes.

Residents may experience temporary service interruptions while the new main is interconnected to the distribution system. Water discoloration may also occur, and residents should run their water until it is clear if this happens. There may also be a 30- to 60-minute interruption of service when utility-owned service lines are replaced, and customers are transferred to the new main. New Jersey American Water stated that it will attempt to notify residents 24 hours in advance of service line replacements and will provide flushing instructions.
