Rockets Launch Season With Morris Tournament Win

The West Morris Rockets girls soccer team may play on grass, but it shot into the stratosphere recently as it won an early season tournament in Morris Plains.

Made up of nine- and 10-year-old girls from Mendham, Chester, and Roxbury, the team competed in the Fall Kick Off Morris United STA Soccer Tournament where it went 4-0 in regulation games, shutting out each of its opponents.

The competition stiffened in the championship game, though, when a scoreless tie led both squads to a shootout. The Rockets were up to the task, netting four goals against their opponents’ two, winning the tournament.

Players on the team include Sara Brandt; Alyssa Ettel; Lucy Chomiak; Kelis Mohs; Natalia Cresti; Samantha Harris; Erin Lonergan; Madeleine Ryan; Zoe Hermans; Kelly McDonald; and Allison Colella.

The West Morris Rockets traveling soccer team holds tryouts in the spring and accepts players from all towns in the area.
