See How Mendham, Chester Fared On The PARCC 2019 Exam

MENDHAM, NJ - The results of the standardized tests formerly known as PARCC are in, revealing results for the 2018-2019 school year.

Patch put together the lists of districts, including percentages of students who met or didn't meet expectations. High school math was broken into Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II.

Levels four and five are considered meeting or exceeding expectations, while "Level 1" means they didn't. Just like the past PARCC tests, students met expectations if they performed in the "Level 4" and "Level 5" areas, which is between the scores of 750 and 850, the latter being a perfect score.

Here is how the local districts did out of the roughly 500 ranked:

Algebra I

• Mendham Township topped the list with no students failing to meet expectations.
• Chester ranked 49 with 91.2 percent of students meeting expectations.
• West Morris Regional ranked 186 with 56.7 percent of students meeting expectations.

Geometry

• Both Mendham Borough and Chester Township had no students who failed to meet expectations.
• West Morris Regional ranked 37 with 63.4 percent of students meeting expectations.

Algebra II

• West Morris Regional ranked 27 with 82.7 percent of students meeting expectations.

3rd grade math

• Mendham Borough ranked second with 94.4 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Township ranked 23 with 88.2 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 115 with 75 percent of students meeting expectations.

4th grade math

• Mendham Township ranked 6 with 90.9 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 119 with 70.9 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 187 with 63.7 percent of students meeting expectations.

5th grade math

• Mendham Township ranked first with 91.7 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 13 with 85.5 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 114 with 67.9 percent of students meeting expectations.

6th grade math

• Mendham Township ranked number one with 91.7 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 34 with 83.6 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 46 with 69.5 percent of students meeting expectations.

7th grade math

• Mendham Township ranked nine with 86.1 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 34 with 75 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 92 with 64.3 percent of students meeting expectations.

8th grade math

• Mendham Township ranked second with 91.9 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 174 with 36.5 percent of students meeting expectations.

3rd grade English

• Mendham Borough ranked third with 90.6 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Township ranked 18 with 84.7 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 172 with 63.6 percent of students meeting expectations.

4th grade English

• Mendham Township ranked fourth with 94.9 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 119 with 76.4 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 181 with 70 percent of students meeting expectations.

5th grade English

• Mendham Township ranked number one with 97.3 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 33 with 87.3 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 100 with 78.2 percent of students meeting expectations.

6th grade English

• Mendham Township ranked second with 97.7 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 12 with 92 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 131 with 74.6 percent of students meeting expectations.

7th grade English

• Mendham Township ranked third with 96.3 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 24 with 92.3 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 122 with 80.2 percent of students meeting expectations.

8th grade English

• Mendham Township ranked number one with 98.7 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Chester ranked 102 with 82 percent of students meeting expectations.
• Mendham Borough ranked 147 with 78.6 percent of students meeting expectations.

9th grade English

• West Morris Regional ranked 27 with 82.9 percent of students meeting expectations.

10th grade English

• West Morris Regional ranked 21 with 84.4 percent of students meeting expectations.

PARCC tests have been a source of controversy for years, and Gov. Phil Murphy has talked for two years about finding replacements for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers test.

The New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) uses the same computer-based platform used for PARCC and draws on the same bank of test questions. Indeed, the NJSLA results in English and math are comparable to the previous years' PARCC results.

However, the biggest difference between this assessment and PARCC is that it's now approximately 25 percent shorter and the number of questions has been reduced.
