Sign Showdown Stalled in Chester

The next step in the litigation between Chester Borough and Charles Wasser takes a detour.

The case against Charles Wasser originally scheduled for May 2 has been adjourned to a later date.

Wasser, owner of , was summoned to court on for .

"I plead not guilty and was scheduled for trial," Wasser said. "But had to request an adjourment because of a conflict with my attorney."

This was the latest volley in an ongoing struggle with the borough for Wasser, who was one of several businesses charged with violating a longstanding sign ordinance.

For his part, Wasser said he is being targeted for complaining about the borough government that is infringing on his right to free speech.

In a letter to the editor published in the last issue of the , Chester Borough Mayor Robert Davis lists the many things the borough government has done for businesses of Chester.

Both sides will make their case at a trial expected to begin next month.
