Summer Journey Becomes Years of Adventure for Mendham High Grad

Matt Wetherington experienced high highs and low lows during international excursion.

From Chester Township to New Brunswick, where he studied and graduated from Rutgers University, Matt Wetherington had bigger dreams of spreading his wings. 

So the then-21-year-old and two friends put time and (some) responsibility aside in the summer of 2010, and took off to travel the world, according to a report on newjerseyhills.com.

Wetherington and his pals put their faith in others, traveling on a credit card and a prayer, picking up odd jobs, old cars for transport and sleep, and making the best of the continents the skipped to and from, the report said.

The trip went from a summer escape to three years of “highs and lows” for the trio, who have now gone their separate ways back to a fairly routine lifestyle.
