Here Comes Thoroughly Modern Millie Now

Mendham's 2012 spring musical opens March 15.

On March 15, 16 and 17 the students of Mendham High School will put on the broadway hit Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Taking place in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. Based on the popular movie, the stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie includes a full score of songs and bright dance numbers.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is being directed at Mendham by Anthony Ross, a theater professor at Middlesex County College. While Ross focused on the era archetypes and tricky bi-lingual dialogue, Mendham High School's own Patricia Danner tackles the broadway jazz score, student choreographers Jean Lee and Libby Oehrlein keep the cast of 60 on their toes.

Emily Peters headlines the cast as the title character of Millie Dillmount with David Riculli and Alex Davies serving as romantic foils Jimmy Smith and Trevor Graydon respectively.

Brittany Trach takes on the role of ingenue Dorothy Brown, and Becca MacLean has been entrusted with the role of singer and matriarch Muzzy Van Hossmere.

Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie offers an evening of madcap merriment. And with the role of Millie Dillmount, musical theatre has found a new heroine for the ages in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

And Mendham High School offers three chances to see it.
