Trunk or Treat, then Trash
Although this event is only 2 hours long, you would think by the debris left behind it was a multi-day festivity, reminiscent of Woodstock.
OK, maybe not the degree of trash from Woodstock, but still inexcusable.
Year after year the Chester Township NJ "Trunk or Treat" brings in growing numbers of residents to this family oriented Halloween celebration held at Chubb Park in Chester Township. In all the years this park has accommodated the Fireman's Carnival, the 4-H Fair and Oktoberfest - each event lasting for multiple days - you would rarely see any litter left behind. Not the case with Trunk or Treat. Candy wrappers everywhere, plastic cups, TP rolls (cardboard) and soda cans dumped on the ground; plastic trinkets, bags and costume parts left scattered all over the lawn - every - single - year. Naturally, this blows all over the park, into the trees and wooded areas, while some of the debris gets shredded after the DPW mows the lawn. I'm sure the park visitors, like myself, their pets and local wildlife enjoy dodging shards of cut up plastic, shredded garments and candy wrapper remnants. Months later, this litter still remains, embedded in the grass or blown into the treeline for all of nature to enjoy! By summertime of 2019 there were still over a dozen small purple spiders still on the ground from the previous years Trunk or Treat.
An original concept, but why aren't the parents and their children picking up their trash before they leave? Do they figure someone else will clean it up? And why does the Chester Township & Chester Borough Recreation Department not remind everyone at this event to please not leave any trash or clothing behind - or plan to clean up the debris themselves since they sponsor this event (in cooperation with Chester Police, Chester Volunteer Fire Department and First Aid Squad and Chester Municipal Alliance.) https://chestertownship.org/ev... its encouraged at many other parks and events, but why does this one get ignored? No response from the Recreation Department in the township. All I can guess is no one really gives a rip and enjoys leaving the park a complete pigsty.
